Large abstract ceramic sculpture titled "Pot II" by Cleveland artist and potter George Roby. Incised and painted with brown and black glaze, the gravid form references primitive art as well as La Borne modernist pottery by artists such as Elisabeth Joulia. Roby, a Cranbrook alumnus, studied with Toshiko Takaezu and Richard DeVore, and worked with fellow Cleveland ceramist Claude Conover. His work is in the collections of the Cleveland Museum of Art and the Everson Museum--where he showed in the 1964 Ceramics National--among others. "Pot II" was shown at the Cleveland Museum of Art in 1974. Museum label included.
