Raising bilingual children is challenging, but how far are you willing to go in order to get a child to speak in the minority language?

La crise sanitaire actuelle nous a fait repenser notre mode de vie et la manière dont nous souhaitons gérer ce que nous vivons. Les langues ne sont pas la priorité de tous en ce moment - et pourtant, si vous êtes ici, c'est qu'elles importent pour vous. Vous avez certainement remarqué que votre enfant aura développer ses compétences en langue, la langue dans laquelle vous lui parler le plus. Celle dans laquelle il fait son travail d'école et qui est certainement une langue nécessaire pour lui. Cependant, vous vous demandez peut-être comment motiver votre enfant à parler la langue minoritaire car vous n'avez pas en ce moment les moyens et/ou les rencontres que vous aviez habituellement. Les rencontres dans la langue minoritaire ne sont pas possible, les voyages dans votre pays ne sont pas possible et vous manquez d'idées. Vous avez aussi sûrement vu fleurir sur la Toile de nombreuses idées, et vous vous sentez complètement démuni-e-s face à cet afflux d'informations. On peut bien sûr faire de longs discours à nos enfants sur l'utilité de cette langue minoritaire, sur pourquoi nous souhaitons qu'ils parlent cette langue. Est-ce bien utile ? Nos enfants vont-ils vraiment prendre en compte ce que nous allons leur dire ? Ils ont plus envie de faire comme les autres, de ne pas être différents. La motivation passe par de petites choses qui peuvent être mises en place pour lesquelles ils se questionneront et auxquelles nous pourrons donner réponses. L'idée est de rendre la langue minoritaire est utile et de faire en sorte qu'elle soit utiliser de manière habituelle. Je pense qu'il faut faire simple. Il est inutile d'aller chercher des choses compliquées. Passer par le jeu est une bonne méthode. Les enfants apprécient les routines et les informations claires. Laissez-moi vous donner quelques astuces qui vous rendront la vie plus facile et feront en sorte que votre enfant utilisera la langue minoritaire sans que cela lui soit imposé : l'ours en peluche qui parle la langue minoritaire. Tous les enfants aiment les animaux en peluche. Faites en sorte que l'un d'eux ne parle QUE la langue minoritaire !! Il faudra absolument que votre enfant lui parle dans cette langue - ce que vous pouvez faire également. Cela incitera votre enfant à utiliser cette langue. Tout le monde ne peut pas avoir un animal de compagnie, mais si vous décidez d'en adopter un, peut-être que cet animal ne pourrait comprendre que la langue minoritaire. Il sera l'animal à qui il faut parler dans cette langue. Et cela motivera votre enfant à utiliser cette même langue. Il ira même jusqu'à vous rappeler de le faire si vous oubliez. Vous pouvez aussi utiliser une marionnette qui parlera uniquement dans la langue minoritaire à votre enfant. A vous d'utiliser cette marionnette pour parler à votre enfant, pour discuter avec votre enfant dans la langue minoritaire. Inventez une histoire autour de cette marionnette, d'où elle vient, quelle langue elle parle, si elle a une famille ce qu'elle aime bien... Vous pouvez ensuite créer des moments pour que votre enfant discute avec elle. certaines activités dans la maison peuvent être des activités dans la langue minoritaire uniquement. Ainsi vous pouvez choisir que le petit-déjeuner soit uniquement dans la langue minoritaire. Comme toute la famille participe, il est plus facile pour votre enfant d'y prendre part et d'utiliser cette langue. C'est motivant de voir que tout le monde dans la maison le fait- Ajouter un petit jeu : celui qui se trompe de langue à un gage ; c'est amusant et cela donne envie de le faire. Ce peut être un autre moment de la journée, mais cela doit devenir une habitude. nous avons une tablette ou un smartphone. Tous nos enfants aiment jouer avec ces derniers. Prenons avantage de la technologie moderne et modifions la langue de ces derniers. Mettons-les dans la langue minoritaire. Nos enfants, quand ils les utiliseront, devront alors utiliser cette langue. Si vos enfants sont assez grands et qu'ils ont leur propre téléphone, envoyez-leur des messages uniquement dans la langue minoritaire, ils apprendront ainsi à la lire et à l'utiliser. utilisez les passions et les hobbies de vos enfants et faites en sorte que ce soit uniquement dans la langue minoritaire. Supposons que votre enfant soit passionné par les animaux de la ferme, quand vous achetez des livres, regardez les films, discutez de ces animaux, faites en sorte que ce soit toujours dans la langue minoritaire. La chose la plus importante à faire si vous ne voulez pas démotiver vos enfants : ne passez pas votre temps à les corriger. Passez plus de temps à les encourager et à applaudir tous les efforts faits dans cette langue. You certainly noticed that your child(ren) will have developed language abilities, in the language that you use the most with them. The language in which they do their school work and which is a language they need. However, you may wonder how you could motivate your child(ren) to speak the minority language because you do not have the means, the tools and/or the meetings you used to have to make them speak and use that minority language. The gathering in the minority language are not possible. You cannot travail to the country where they speak that language and you are lacking ideas. You certainly saw many, too many sometimes, ideas on the Web, and you feel it is way too much and all those information are more confusing. You could of course have a lengthy talk with your children about the usefulness of the minority language, on why you are wishing them to speak that language. Would that be really useful? Will our children take into account what we are going to tell them? They are more interested in doing like the others, they do not want to be different. You reach motivation through little things which can be easily implemented, which they may question, bu tot which you'll be able to give answers. The idea is that they will then find that the minority language is useful and that its use will become a habit. I think that simple things are better. It is useless to make everything complicated. Playing is a great idea, a great method. Children enjoy more routine activities and clear information. So, let me give you some more tips which will make you life easier and then you child will use the minority language without having the feeling that it is imposed on his/her : the minority language teddy bear. Children enjoy teddy bears. Maybe one of them can speak ONLY the minority language. You will have to make sure that your child talks to him in the minority language; you will have to do the same. This will give your child an incentive to use the language. Not everybody can have a pet, but if you can adopt one, maybe this pet could be the one speaking the minority language. You will have to speak to the pet in the minority language. This will also motivate your child to use that language. He/she will eventually remind you to do so if you forget. you can also use a puppet which will only speak the minority language to your child. Then it is up to you to use the puppet to talk to your child, to have a chat with your child in the minority language. You can invent a story around the puppet, where it is coming from, which language it speaks, whether it has a family, what it likes... all in the minority language. You can then create times when your child will have a chat with the puppet. some activities in the house can be only in the minority language. For example, you can decide to have breakfast in the minority language. As the whole family is taking part, it is then easier for your child to take part and use the language. It is also motivating to see that the whole family is taking part. You can even add a game: the one using the wrong language will have to do something funny. It is fun and this will give you child the incentive to use the language and it will become a habit. we all have a tablet or a smartphone. Children always like to use them. Let's take advantage of modern technology and modify the language on them. Put them into the minority language. When our children will want to use them, they will have to use the minority language. When your children are older, you can even send them text messages in the minority language only. They will then learn to read and write them. use their hobbies. Try to organise activities, books, films, etc etc regarding the hobbies of your children, but when doing so, be sure that it is only in the minority language. The most important - if you do not want to stop the motivation of your children - do not keep correcting them. Encourage them and applaud all their efforts to use the minority language. What to do when a small child avoids using the minority language and insists on speaking the community language?
