Fulbrook is an attractive Cotswold village separated from Burford by a medieval bridge across the River Windrush. Though close to this popular Oxfordshire town, Fulbrook has a retained an identity of it's own. It is thought that Fulbrook gets it's name from the Old English 'Ful' meaning dirty or muddy. The village lies on the edge of the great forest of Wychwood, a royal hunting estate since Saxon times. From 1066 to C14 Manor held by the Dispenser family. The ancient church of St James is Saxon in origin and stands next to a Yew of 19 feet in girth which may be 1000 years old. www.bwthornton.co.uk
