This cookbook is a rare piece of American Culinary Ephemera. "Cook Book of Oriskany Chapter D. A. R." was published in 1924 in under the general supervision of Mrs. James Corbitt. On the title page is stated the following: "Compiled from recipes contributed by members of Oriskany Chapter, D. A. R." Further, the intent of the cookbook was announced: "Funds received through the sale of these books used for the proper marking and identification of graves of Soldiers of The American Revolution and of Historical Places, in this section." Oriskany, N.Y. is just down the road from the National Monument at the site of the Oriskany Battlefield , one of the key engagements of the Revolutionary War, and after which the massive American aircraft carrier, 'The USS Oriskany', was named. This is a rare item, with no catalog record in the Library of Congress (LOC), nor in World Catalog (OCLC). I found no other copies for sale on line. Lots of yummy recipes from chapter members (who are not individually credited with their contributions). There is also lots of local (and not-so-local) advertising, which went toward the funding of the book. TITLE : Cook Book of Oriskany Chapter, D. A. R. Contains illustrations within a few of the advertisements; 94 pages; 6 1/4" x 9 1/4", stiff, textured paper wraps, stapled (three staples). Text printed on calendered paper. The front cover has the insignia of the Daughters of the American Revolution, which is a thirteen-spoked wheel with stars , behind which is a distaff ( a spindle for wool from a spinning wheel). CONDITION: Exterior — A bit of weathering about the edges, most noticeably along the top edge (which also has a bit of spotting); bumped corners, and some creasing. Mild overall surface rub and a bit of spotting and smudging to rear cover, but basically clean and presentable. Binding — Solid Interior — Two leaves are a bit ragged (where they were separated at the fore-edge) - else clean and unmarked throughout.
