Our house doesn't have a mudroom but a space was needed to save our wood floor and our sanity from destruction from our little girls. At this time, we can't afford thousands of dollars to have a carpenter renovate the interior entry into a formal mudroom so I decided to tackle a DIY project and make a landing at the garage entry door in the garage. It is an elevated platform, even with the door itself to prevent any falls (an issue with our toddler) with mudroom inspired bench and cubbies. I also had to build a wall as we have a stairway going down into the laundry room from the garage. This allowed me to frame the platform like a deck. My first experience in framing a floor and a wall all in the same project in fact. Working full time and having two girls under the age of 5, I worked on the project over the summer, putting in an hour or two where I could before and after work and between kid activities.
