With this tutorial, learn how to crochet the Tunisian Pyramid Lace Stitch, an exclusive and new stitch pattern that creates a delicate and beautiful finished piece. Tunisian crochet, or afghan crochet as it’s often referred to, is a form of crochet that combines crochet and knitting to create a fabric that closely resembles knitted or woven fabric. Tunisian crochet is made by using a hook to work a forward pass from right to left and then a return pass that is worked from left to right. During the forward pass, loops are picked up onto the hook, and then during the return pass the loops are taken off of the hook. Small projects can be made with a regular hook that does not have a handle, but larger projects may be crocheted with a crochet hook that has a long, straight handle with a stopper on one end or a shorter hook with an extension cord may be used too. Tunisian crochet is a wonderful technique to learn and can be used to make thick textured blankets, hats, garments, and depending on the stitch, even lace can be created. Lace is created by working clusters and or holes into the piece during the return pass. Another way to create a lacey fabric is to use a larger hook with lighter weight yarn. It can be a lot of fun to play around and see what kind of lace can be created with different hooks and yarn. Another fun way to change the look of the lace is to block it, this will exaggerate the laciness and make it more visible.
