Have students track their own data! If your building/personal goal is to have students tracking their data, this is perfect for your articulation students! I have had success with Kindergarten and older. Have students color in a box as they master their sound in isolation, syllables, words, etc. ...
"Sh" can be a tricky sound to teach! I have a sweet girl with Down syndrome who has a lot of nasal emission when producing this sound. In fact, she is unable to produce anything sounding like "sh" when she pinches her nose closed. It almost comes out more like /k/. This shows me that 100% of the air comes out of her nose when she normally produces the sound. We are going to start working on producing the sound in isolation without nasal emission. Have you worked on nasal emission before? Let me know if you have any advice! Click here to download the data sheet!
This is THREE page for teaching the R sound in initial position of words. s: 1 blank coloring sheet, 1 colored-in version and a checklist of words for data collection. Good for speech therapy, teachers and parents to give their students and children these engaging drawing to color, while they learn their speech sounds! In the therapy room, I pass out a coloring sheet to each student, specific to their specific need. For example, a th coloring sheet to one, an r coloring sheet to another and an sh sheet for the last. As each student takes his or her turn and work hard producing one or several of the words on their sheet, they are rewarded by coloring it in. They can see their progress as it comes to life with color they created, all the while mastering their sound! After several sessions, they have a sheet than can be proud of and take home to their parents! Convenient digital download so you can print and have this resource available for use within minutes of purchase. Keep copies handy for quick speech and phonology needs. Rationale: It is typical for children to use phonological processes for various sounds while learning to speak. According to Poole’s Norms* 90 % of children develop the voiced alveolar liquid approximant /r/ (the car, dog or pirate sound) by the age of 7. Misarticulation of /r/ by this age is categorized as a phonological disorder at which time it is considered ethical and advisable to begin assessment by a Speech and Language Pathologist leading to early intervention for optimal outcome. (*Poole, Sander, Hena, Fudala, Templin & Wellman) This /r/ initial (prevocalic r) “Search & Find” coloring page, poster and checklist contain 58 target words with the /r/ in the initial position of words and 6 “foils” with multiple /r/ sounds in the words. The extra /r/ sounds can be ignored or used as built in screening devices for your students' progress toward generalization. It is recommended for, but not limited to, students who have mastered unprompted production of the sound in isolation or in the medial position of a syllable (or between 2 vowels) of words by 80% or more. Procedure: Instruct your student to choose a word or tell them to find a word you would like them to work on. If they produce the target sound correctly they can color the corresponding image. Suggested prompts for the correct placement of articulators and airflow: e.g. mouth smiling or pursed, lips open, tongue back, voice on. Use the provided target word checklist to track your student’s progress by filling in the squares, for example, with: + for correct, - for incorrect, ⊕ correct with a prompt, etc. Once completed keep this page in the student’s folder or hang on your speech room wall, so the student has something to connect with to help recall the learning sessions when they return to your therapy room. Use the colored-in version similarly or as a visual to point out target words. Use: Although this resource is intended for use with Speech and Language Therapy students, it can also be used to facilitate accent reduction in children and adults, in English for Second Language (ESL) learners, for stroke patients, as screening or testing tools, for individual or group therapy, for home work or vacation packages, homeschool, distance learning, general education teachers, Special Education teachers and other Communication Disorders specialists.

Use this free syllable level articulation activity worksheet with any speech sound on your caseload! Once a child gets his/her articulation sound in isolation, speech pathologists usually move to the word level. When following the traditional articulation therapy approach, the SLP needs to have the child practice his/her articulation productions in syllables. This allows the student to drill the correct sound productions without a contextualized context, so that the student can focus on the motor patterns. These ⭐FREE Articulation Syllable Practice Sheets⭐ will help the busy SLP plan therapy quickly and visually help the student with correctly producing his/her target sound. These syllable sheets are ❤️no prep! You can use them with a ❤️post-in note, ❤️a page protector and dry erase marker or incorporate ❤️visual sound cue cards with the syllable sheet. Once the child has mastered his/her sound in VC and CV syllables (Stage 2) of the Traditional Therapy Approach, the SLP can move onto working with the student's sound in words. What's Included in the Articulation Syllable Sound Practice Sheets: ⭐Cheat Sheet Of The Traditional Therapy Approach Stages To Help Plan Therapy ⭐Syllable Sound Practice With Shorts Vowels ⭐Syllable Sound Practice With Long Vowels ⭐Syllable Sound Practice With Mixed Vowels How To Set Up Therapy and Use This Resource The best way to determine where to begin in therapy is to get baseline testing about where the child is with correctly producing the sound. The SLP can determine if the child is able to discriminate a correct versus incorrect sound production. Then, the SLP can assess if the child is stimulable for correctly producing the sound in isolation, syllables, words, etc. Grab this FREE articulation data sheet to help you collect baseline data on your students. • Articulation Data Sheets- Free Printable (includes a Google Slide version) For example, if a child can correctly produce the /s/ in isolation, you would want to start therapy at the syllable level. By working on the /s/ at the syllable level, it allows the child to focus on the motor patterns of correctly producing the sound. As the child achieves mastery at the syllable stage, the SLP would move to the next stage of words in the initial positions. This resource is designed for the speech-language pathologist to use with children that are at stage two using CV and VC syllable combinations with the target sound. Practicing the target sound at the syllable level is a very important stage because it allows the child to focus on the motor movements of the sound production. By not using real words, it takes out the contextual component of the sound, so child can work on getting the correct phonetic placement and manner. Tips For Helping Your Students With Self Awareness Of Their Sound Productions Have the child rate his/her productions with the visual supports. You can record your student producing his/her productions and then have the student listen to the recording. The student can say or write down the words that he/she produced correctly or incorrectly. Make sure your positive and negative feedback is clear and specific. For example, you can say, “That was a perfect L.” or “Oops, our tongue wasn’t in the right position, so I didn’t hear an L sound.” Have your students visually see their performance at the end of the session by graphing how well they did or explain which words they produced correctly.
