www.pbase.com/uloo/_home_made_wooden_boats My new challenge I set for this project is to develop a canoe/kayak type boat for 2 person that will not cost more then 100 dollars in material and can be built over the span of 2 weekends. So I will document the progress of this project in this thread. Maybe you guys could have some cool ideas and input along the way. This is going to be fun..... After about 10 hours on this boat project including the designing and planing. The idea was bouncing around my head for many month..../ years Cost so far : - 1 2X6 16 foot long $ 7.- - scrap 3/4 multy layer plywood for the frames $ 5.- - A hand full of 1 1/4" and 1 5/8" screws $ 2.- - 1 oz of marine epoxy glue $ 2.- --------- $ 16.- so far Cost: - up to here 16.- $ - 2 sheet of plywood 17.- - 1 bottle of Gorilla glue 14.- - 2 box of #6 X 3/4 screws 7.- ------ Total 54.- New tally of the cost: So far $ 54.- 10 yard of 3" fiberglass strips $ 8.- some more epoxy glue and resin $ 5.- 2 more boxes of #6 X 3/4" screws $ 7.- 1 can of wood filler $ 7.- 1 box of 1 5/8 wood screws $ 6.- 1 gallon of industrial oil paint $ 23.- (this will last me trough many more projects) 2 quarts of paint primer $ 16.- 1 small paint roller and brushes $ 8.- 1 old brocken back yard plastic chair free , but need another to make it a 2 seater. so here we go the grand total is $ 134 .- And yes it floats........ My goal was to keep it under 100 and clearly I went over it, but its still in the afordable category for just about anyone. Now time wise I added another 24 hours wich is 8 hours more then planned. So it could be built in about 2 1/2 weekend of 8 hours work days. Also were my time was so fragmented over the duration of the project, I wasted a lot of time in repeated set up and tool storage time. I still believe that it could be built in 2 long weekends. The only thing that could mess up that schedule is the drying time of the paint.
