Here’s an interesting fact: If you ask almost anyone about the history of polio and its cure, they will mention Jonas Salk. But if you ask people with diabetes to tell you about famous names in the history of diabetes research, they will draw a blank. Why should anyone care? I would say that a good reason to care is that people with diabetes are alive and well, with type 1 or type 2 diabetes, because of the pioneers who developed interventions.
