The Widened Lines station at London Kings Cross was closed by this time but the work-stained platform awning on the left & the dive-down of the trackbed shows it to be the exit from the Metropolitan line to Moorgate - the Hotel Curve. On the right the tracks are lifted & the curve of the suburban platforms is being cut off by the straightened & lengthened main line platforms during the rebuilding known as "Clearing the Throat" in 1977. On the skyline on the left are the railway buildings of York Road Depot on Goods Way on the other side of the Regents Canal. They appear to be still there today but are no longer railway related. The whole area is being redeveloped in association with the new Eurostar terminus at St Pancras station. A Deltic, Class 31 & Class 47 diesels are stabled in the distance. Unsurprisingly this area is no longer used for locos but is a car park. See where this picture was taken. [?]
