Here's an extra recipe from Great Hosts Mike and Ingrid Wallace. It's from her "Latvian Cooking" cookbook. "Although there are variations," Ingrid said, "the book indicates this is the real, original recipe from more than a century ago. This recipe gets easier to make with practice. The cake is very rich." Text from the book reads: "This recipe was invented in Latvia's capital city of Riga more than a hundred years ago during a visit of a Russian czar. The cake looks quite plain, but it became an instant success, and still is probably because of a lucky blend of flavors. Most every Latvian housewife has her own Alexander Cake recipe, and they seem to come in all shapes and sizes."
