Another Niebling-inspired Nightmare before Xmas for you, lol! Both charts version and written version included (in two separate files). Stitch count is only given in the written version. Difficulty: Advanced. Only right side rows are charted, and you will be asked to work wrong side row stitches as they appear (knit over knit and purl over purl, with an optional p tbl over p tbl) so the ability to read your knitting is essential. There are even repeats within the repeat. Provisional CO used (7 sts). Yarn: 150g long gradient Farbmasche Filisilk (extra yardage in the gradient), 70% merino 30% silk, 656 yards (600 m) / 100g. 140 g yarn was used for the shawl as shown, so about 920 yards (840 m). Yarn available at: www.Farbmasche.de If substituting yarn, go for clear stitch definition, the pattern has a lot of structure with twisted sts and small cable sts. Filisilk is available as solids from other sources too. Size: One size only. 20 inches (50 cm) deep and 54 inches (137 cm) from side to side. Use heavier weight yarn and larger needles if you want a larger shawl (uses more yarn), skinnier yarn and smaller needles if you want a smaller shawl (uses less yarn). The pattern is 130 rows. Needles: US 4 (3.5 mm) circular needle or the needle you need to get a fabric you like, and a needle one size larger than that for the BO. Cable needle. Beads: 1027 seed beads size 8/0 if worked according to pattern. Beads are optional. You can add a lot more beads if you wish, I won’t stand in your way. Other notions: Stitch markers are essential, it is easy to get lost. Crochet hook or other gizmo for placing beads. If your beads are a little irregular, using a piece of bendable fishing line or the like is a practical solution. Darning needle. Spare circular needle or waste yarn for provisional CO. Construction: The shawl is worked from the neck and out, with a patterned tab cast on that carries on all the way through. It is bound off with a simple “k1, slide back, k2tog” bind off method. 2/5-2017 A Russian version has been added (charts only). Добавлена русская версия (схемы и подробные инструкции к ним, без описания по рядам). Translation by Katharina Sokiran.
