Burlington, Vermont USA • Handicap accessible tree house along Lake Champlain, in Oakledge Park. ☞ From the Burlington Parks and Recreation Department's website: The first handicapped accessible tree house constructed in a public park was recently completed in Burlington's Oakledge Park. The tree house is located in a large white oak tree and stands 15 feet off the ground. Access is provided from a hard surfaced walkway that connects to a series of ramps which wind through a rocky ledge. The final section of ramp brings the visitor to the base of the tree house. The tree house is located at the southern end of the park near the large picnic shelter and is available for use year round. The construction of the tree house was a cooperative project between the Burlington based non-profit organization, Forever Young Treehouses, Inc. and the City of Burlington. The mission of Forever Young Treehouses is to provide access to a treehouse experience to all regardless of physical, mental or financial restraints. Burlington Parks and Recreation Department is proud to be home to the first such treehouse of its kind in a public park in the country and we encourage residents and visitors to check it out!
