I’m proud and happy to share some promising progress on two more Works-in-Progress (WIPS)! Woo! First of all, I’ve finished the blocks for my Scrappy-Trip-Around-the-World quilt. I added some less-intense reds and more funky shades of the original colors and and I think it’s made a good difference. I like it MUCH better. It’s not perfect, but it’s a big improvement. I read Jen Kingwell quote Freddy Moran who said, “10 fabrics don’t work, but 110 fabrics do.” Truth. Especially when you’re going ‘scrappy.’ (As Jen’s quilts are a perfect example.) I’m excited to sew these blocks together and get this one quilted. I think I’ll like it even more after that. The other old WIP I’ve pulled out is this Dresden Plate quilt that I made 5 years ago. I remember doing the applique for these blocks while watching the Vancouver 2010 Olympics. (yikes. Time flies.) This one needed borders and I’d decided way back then that I wanted to have a scrappy, pieced border. Working on the Scrappy Trip Along quilt, I cut the remnants of my 2 1/2” strips into 2 1/2” squares to add to my scrap system. They dovetailed perfectly into the pieced border for this […]
