About five centuries ago, the residents of Primošten, fleeing from the Turks, settled on the nearby island of Gola Glava. They surrounded it with city walls and built a wooden bridge, which they raised in times of danger. That’s how the town got its name: premošten means bridged over, hence Primošten.
