Color is the first step in Cindy Grisdela's artistic process, putting fabrics together the way a painter might use paint. She then cuts shapes freehand with a rotary cutter, allowing her to engage in a direct dialog with her materials. Finally, she adds stitching lines, whose texture adds dimension and tactile energy to the piece. "Pinata" is an exploration of color and line using a combination of bright saturated fabrics and neutrals. A variety of values from very light ecru to dark chocolate brown adds depth and dimension. Mounted on painted black canvas with a wire on the back for easy hanging.
