Southgate Shopping Center opened in November 1957, with 16 stores, including a department store, a hardware store, a shoe store, a Woolworth's and a "Beauteria." The center is located at 2515 South Florida Avenue in Lakeland, Florida. In 1990 Southgate had a cameo appearance in Tim Burton's movie Edward Scissorhands. Today Southgate stands as a beloved landmark and an icon of the city of Lakeland.
