"Lighthouses" are defined here as man-made objects that have been created to house lights that serve to either primarily or secondarily serve as navigation aids to ships and other water vessels. As can be seen from the images in this gallery, in addition to the structures with which we are all familiar they may exist in the form of castles, statues, churches, etc. And their reason for existence might even be more symbolic than for usefulness.
