I am still collecting books illustrated by Gerald Rose, I absolutely love his illustrations as you know, but also I love these older children's books because of the values and the quality of the writing. There is a great sense of care, community, wonder and nurturing and great story telling. This book tells the story of an oak tree and features some of it's uses through the centuries, and some of the animals who take shelter and eat it's fruit, as well as the way children, play, swing, climb and built tree houses in its great branches.
