The Melusine is a legendary femenine figure from the European Middle Ages which represents a spirit of fresh waters in sacred springs and rivers. It is used as a heraldic figure in many cities (e.g. in Warsaw), or in Naples' Palazzo della Provincia, where it is depicted as a double-tailed sirene supporting one scaly tail in each arm.
