Birthday Unit Flashcards to recognize things that students can find in a party: cake, candle, balloon, present,party hat. What is it? Place all the party things on the board and ask questions. Teacher: What’s this? Students: It´s a candle. At a party, there's always food. The flashcards for cake, cookie, jello are available. Students might know the colors by now, but it is good to review them. Place all the cakes flashcards on the board. Go over all the colors. Ask questions: Teacher: What is this? Student: It’s a cake. Teacher: What color is the cake? Student: yellow! Teacher: It’s a yellow cake. Do the same with the presents. Also have the students understand the use of there is. Teacher: There is a red present. Prompt the blue present. Students: There is a blue present. And with the candles. Have the students notice that every balloon has a different color. Ask them: What color is this balloon? Students: It's green! Make a reader using a fly swatter. Cut a hole and there you go. Have your students read the word through the hole. Also review the shapes. There are the cakes and the cookies with shapes. Ask questions. Teacher: What shape is it? Student: a circle. Trace with your finger the circle. Teacher: What color is the circle? Student: green, purple, pink, blue! Birthday unit Have Flashcards. Point to what the cupcakes have and ask questions. Teacher: Look at the cupcake. What does it have? Student: a candle. Reviewing the toys unit. These are the teddy bears flashcards for the students to identify and describe what they have. Teacher: Look at teddy bear Annie. What does she have? Students: two balloons, a present! Ask about age.How old are you? Place all the candle numbers flashcards on the board. Go over all the numbers. Ask questions: Teacher: What color is number two? Student: It’s purple. Students will learn how to say one's age.Tell the students to go to the board and touch the flashcard that corresponds with their age. Student: I am five. (touching the flashcard) Asking questions for information. How old is or she? Also develop self-concept. Teacher: Who is this? Students: Mike! Teacher: Is he a boy or a girl? Students: a boy! Teacher: How old is Anna? Students: five! Teacher: How old are you? Students: six! Place the children flashcards on the board and ask their age. Like or don’t like. Place the like or don’t like flashcards on the board. Hand in the food flashcards to several students and have them come to the board and place the flashcard where they like or don’t like. Help them with making a sentence. Teacher: I like ice cream. Student: I like ice cream. Tell students that people come to parties. Ask them Who’s at the party? Teacher: Who’s at the party? Students: David, Ben, Ella! Continue naming the people with you as you point to them. You can also use the grammar structure: This is my (present). Describe a flashcard and have the students guess the name Teacher: This is my present. It is orange and purple. Students: Ben! Review the emotions with the party hats flashcards.Ask questions: How does this hat feel? Students: happy! Ask personal questions: Teacher: Are you happy or sad? Student: happy! A little counting and reviewing the numbers. Teacher: What is it? Students: balloon. Teacher: Count the balloons. one, two. Two balloons! Students: two balloons. Also introduce the phrase: There are two presents! Place the cakes with the candles on the board. Have the students count the candles on each cake and say the number. Model the sentence: There is one candle .
