This limited edition large format giclée print of a staircase designed by Robert Mallet-Stevens for sculptures Jan et Joel Martel's residence is made from a photographic plate that appeared in “L’art international d’aujourd‘hui, détails d’architecture intérieure, no.5” a rare portfolio of photographic plates documenting the early 20th Century European Arts Decoratifs. The original photograph of the staircase is in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian Libraries. Mallet-Stevens was a pioneering modernist architect who designed public and residential buildings as well as interiors, film sets and furniture. He brought together artisans of the time such as Eileen Grey, Pierre Charreau and Theo van Doesberg to create full blown modernist works. Prior to the first world war, Mallet-Stevens created a magazine whose board included such diverse talents as Claude Debussy and Maurice Denis. In 1929 he founded the Union des Artistes Modernes, which included Sonia Delauney, René Herbst, Charlotte Perriand, Pierre Guariche and Mathieu Matégot.
