Explore #122 Mar 27th 2009 An excellent castle run by English Heritage. It stands on a high rocky spur overlooking the River Wye and commanded a crossing of the river, known as Walesford or Walford, Ross-on-Wye. This separates Wales from England. The castle was begun in the late 11th century, by the Englishman Godric who gave it his name.
