HOW I KNIT: Stockinette Stitch, Continental Style OK, let’s try to touch this eternal topic: knitting Continental vs. knitting English style. So, I knit Continental. Why? 1. I was taught this knitting style when I was five years old. It’s my comfort zone. :) 2. Continental is fast. Not because you move your fingers faster, but because you do that more efficiently. (The accelerated segments of the video show my actual normal knitting speed.) 3. Continental is comfortable, smooth and efficient. Fewer motions of wrists and needles, fewer steps to complete each stitch, more relaxed hands, more consistent tension. You basically move your fingertips only. Front or back loop? It depends. When I knit Stockinette flat, I like to work through the back loop. It’s sooo fast and meditative! O
