I grew up on a farm, my mother was a goat farmer. Now I want to tell about my first memory with a cheese made in a mold like this. Don't tell my mother I told you.. it's about the very first brown cheese (brunost in Norwegian) she cooked from goat's milk at home on the farm. It turned out very nice! To look at at least.. She used a mold similar to this one. The problem was that the cheese became hard as a rock, it was impossible to eat it. So the very beautiful cheese ended up in the dog's food bowl. He couldn't eat it either, but it made the feeding area much cozier for the dog.. I use molds like this for butter, it's for example so nice to put on the Christmas breakfast table. Wonderful hand carved buttermold from early 1900s, or late 1800s. Beautiful craftsmanship by a skilled woodcarver, deep and nicely carved. Heart pattern at the top, and on one of the sides. This is a Norwegian traditional folk art treasure of the best! Just amazing. This is a very large mold, measures approx. 17 x 17 x 27 cm/ 6.7 x 6.7 x 10.6 inches. It's in very good condition, with normal signs of age and use; a little greasy after use, two of the four small wooden pegs are missing/broken, and the large wooden plug to lock with is probably newer than the mold itself. Sourced at the countryside in Trøndelag, Central Norway.
