Super interesting old oak barrel, with 3 bands, 3 feet and a lid in silver plated brass. The lid is amazing, with its finial handle and beautiful engraved patterns. It is hinged, and fits well into the fully lined interior. It may have insulation as well. Similar barrels are used as ice buckets, or for storing teas, tobaccos, and biscuits near the turn of the century. This was purchased in an antique shop, and it appears very old (certainly <1950's). There is wear to the silver and it has tarnish, and the wood varnish is dry and a bit flakey in spots. Also, there is one nail missing from the silver banding. It measures approximately: 911g; 18cm/7" H x 14cm/5.5" D.
