Also known as the Japanese iris, this perennial plant is native to Japan but now cultivated all over the world. Beginning as a photograph, the image was cropped, cut, and reassembled - creating a design that is unique but still inspired by nature. This image is copyright protected and may not be copied or reproduced without the express written permission of Richard Schleuning. ------------------------------ MATERIALS ------------------------------ Fabric: This Draped Art Kimono is available in Silk Habotai fabric, featuring: - 100% mulberry silk, lightweight and airy - Smooth classic 'silky' texture with lovely drapability - Moderate sheen on both sides of the fabric - Machine rolled baby hem, finished on all 4 sides - The artwork is 80-90% visible through to backside of fabric - Weight 90 g/m2 - lightweight and airy Ink: Found In Nature Draped Art Kimonos are created using ‘reactive’ printing, which is a permanent, multi-step process formulated for printing on natural fabrics. It involves 4 main steps including pretreatment of the fabric, printing, steaming to set the inks and then washing to remove excess inks and residual pretreatment. Reactive printing is a lengthy process, but ensures the kimonos are fully washable with no fading and remain perfectly soft. It is far superior to pigment printing, which is not water fast and will fade over time. ------------------------------ KIMONO SIZES ------------------------------ The Draped Art Kimonos are available in 2 sizes: - Small/Medium: for bust sizes up to 37”. The back neck to bottom hem measures 23” - Large / X Large: for busts sizes greater than 37”. The back neck to bottom hem measures 25” ------------------------------ CARE INSTRUCTIONS ------------------------------ Found In Nature Draped Art Kimonos are printed using reactive inks. Reactive inks are permanent but can be sensitive to washing the first few times. - For the first wash, use one cup of white vinegar and two teaspoons of salt in a washing machine full of water (without soap). Do not use a reduced water cycle - IMPORTANT: dry immediately after washing. Leaving product wet and wrinkled, or folded onto itself may result in ink transfer stains. Hang to dry with no self-overlap. - For subsequent washing, use a phosphate free detergent and full water cycle. Wash separately from other laundry for the first 2-4 washes. Add a mild fabric softener to enhance softness and drape. - Machine dry on low heat or hang to dry. - Iron using the silk setting (delicate) with low steam - Expect some minor shrinking of about 1% in width and length. ------------------------------ TURNAROUND TIME ------------------------------ The Draped Art Kimonos from Found in Nature are hand-made to order. Nothing is mass produced, allowing for better quality control and less waste - helping to minimize the environmental impact. Each kimono is individually printed, then cut, sewn and hand finished - a true artisanal approach to fashion design.
