Sodalite - 8 lb 14 oz (4048g) - Rough Sodalite - Blue Sodalite Cut Base This listing is for the actual item pictured. What you see is what you will receive. This large chunk of sodalite is from Brazil. It has rich blue hues with white veins. It has a cut base so it stands solidly on its own. My photos are always taken with dry specimens, but just FYI, the blue color intensifies when it is wet. Sodalite is a feldspathoid mineral that occurs in basic igneous rocks. It gets its name from its sodium content, and generally forms when aluminum silicate-rich rocks are invaded from below by waters rich in sodium chloride. Sodalite's color ranges from royal blue to light blue and white and makes it very distinctive and likely to be confused only with lazurite and lazulite. High-quality sodalite is used as a gemstone, a sculptural material, and an architectural stone. Measurements are approximate as the shape is irregular. I include a small freebie with each order!
