This is a very attractive Victorian small slim antique account of how a garden was created in a missionary in Sri Lanka or Ceylon as it was known at the time. It was published in 1891 and given as a prize in 1905 as you can see from the prize plate to the back of the front board. Please be aware that a Victorian book will contain attitudes which are thankfully different from our own. A particular feature is the tissue guarded frontis and the many full page and in text engraving style illustrations. The design on the cover is bright and clear. The decorated blue boards are in excellent condition and protected in mylar which I removed for the photos. Minor rubbing to the spine ends. The page block is tight with no loose or missing pages. There is a light age tone to the page edges but no further marks or inscriptions bar the prize plate. The end papers have a dark age tone as you might expect in a book of this age. Generally clean and bright. The book is about 6 inches high 200 pages long making it relatively small and slim. This is a really nice copy and would make a great addition to any vintage nature or topography collection but it would also look lovely as part of a display in a vintage book nook.
