Iconic Estrid Ericson's (1894-1981) pewter Etrusian / Etruscan "Meander" necklace made by the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art in parternship with Svenskt Tenn. The "Meander" necklace was designed in the 1940s after Ericson's enchantment with an original Etruscan necklace that she found and purchased in Rome, and has remained an iconic piece since then. Ericson initially founded the storied Svenkst Tenn with her pewter works before it bloomed into a full suite design house now synonymous with modern Swedish design. It is impossible to separate the era's new aesthetic from the egalitarian ideals that allowed a woman in her 30s to flourish as a business owner and then re-double her success after partnering with Josef Frank upon his arrival in Sweden after fleeing Austria amidst growing anti-semiticism. Marked MMA on latch as the Metropolitan Museum of Art partnered with Svenskt Tenn to produce it. Approximate length: 16" inches Photos are an important part of item description so please review carefully. Please remember this is an antique, vintage, or previously-loved item and will show some signs of use or wear. That said, this piece is in good vintage condition. Please look - I have many one-of-a-kind vintage and antique rings and other jewelry often as well as a special interest in Swedish and Scandinavian items - and often both overlapping!
