Metric: 37x48 cm Original painting of a sparrow and orchids. Ink on rice paper. Birds and flowers are a very common traditional motive of Japanese art, often with interesting symbolic interpretation. Orchids symbolise purity and elegance, as well as wealth and power. As a relatively new and exotic, non-native flower, orchids were considered a luxury, availably to the higher and wealthier parts of the Japanese society. As the legend goes, growing orchids was a popular past time among samurai, who took some time off between battles. Whether it's true or not, orchids are still a very elegant and beautiful flower. Sparrows were traditionally sees as symbols of prosperity, rich fruit harvests, good fortune for the entire family. Sparrows have an auspicious image. In modern interpretation, sparrows are considered to be messengers of joy and happiness, as well as good fortune. The painting is signed, sealed with my personal seal, wet-mounted on backing rice paper and ready to be framed or mounted on a silk scroll. Please use acid-free adhesives when framing. It is manually cut, please leave a few mm error margin for dimensions. Colours may differ due to differences in devices. Check out more of my art at https://yasamt.etsy.com
