This is a Fostoria Glass Designer Collection / Interpretations Group "J" off hand OOAK vase in "Purple". The neodymium / alexandrite vase was created in 1977 and these are very hard to find. This example still retains the original labels and "One of a Kind Collection" card as shown above. James Carpenter was furloughed from Steuben for a year starting in 1977 to create, without the use of moulds, the 28 pieces in 4 groups that were shown in the collection. The line proved very expensive to create, and came with a price tag that was uncommonly high for Fostoria. As a consequence fewer than 1200 pieces were created in total before the line was cut from production in 1978. The vase stands 7-5/8" (19.4 cm) tall and measures 4" (1d.2 cm) in diameter at the mouth. The base is also 4" in diameter. The item is very substantial weighing just over 4-3/4 pounds (2.15 kg). The piece is in excellent condition without chips, flea bites, scratches, or staining.
