Castilleja rhexifolia is a perennial in the Orobanchaceae family. Some common names are Alpine Paintbrush, Rosy Paintbrush, Pink Paintbrush, or Splitleaf Paintbrush. A native to the Alpine areas and is parasitic meaning it will need to attach to other plant roots to collect nutrients. The blooms can be pink, to Crimson in color. It can grow in well-drained soils from full sun to part shade with some shelter to protect them. Zones 4-8 Germination Mix seeds and soil together in a ziplock bag. Write the name of the seed on the bag. Place in the refrigerator for 30 days. Seed should be sown into well-drained, sandy compost and covered to their own depth with sand or grit. Place the seed tray in filtered light and keep moist. Seeds germinate very slowly and may take more than a year to germinate.
