Antique Victorian castor with pickle fork. c. 1910 Pickle castor is one of a variety of beautiful serving accessories found on dining tables in homes of affluent Victorians from the 1870s through the early 1900s. Such expensive tableware, commonly consisting of an elaborate silver-plated frame fitted with a glass insert, was used to serve pickled vegetables and fruits usually prepared and preserved by household kitchen staff. Glass insert is clear pressed glass in a cane pattern with a silverplate cover. The lovely silverplate fork with a grape and leaf pattern is not original to the piece. This piece is well preserved and in excellent condition with no chips or cracks and shows minor ware to the silver. The piece has a fork tray for drips which is commonly missing on such pieces.
