The Katoomba Scenic Railway is a 450m incline that drops 250m with the steepest section having an incline of 52°. It's the steepest incline railway in the world. Visiting this was somewhat of a strange pilgrimage to me. When I was growing up my family's everyday salt and pepper shakers had a picture of the Katoomba Scenic Railway and the Three Sisters printed on them. I finally got to see what was staring me in the face during all those meals. Yay! There however are no longer any Katoomba Scenic Railway branded salt and pepper shakers available for purchase :(
