New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science: Reviews from families visiting New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science. We decided to visit the museum on a cold Sunday morning when outdoor activities were out of the question. My kids (12, 10, 8, 6, and 3) are very active and needed to burn some energy. This was a great place to do that and it wasnt crowded at all. The staff was very friendly when we checked in and informed us of all of the opportunities the museum had to offer. Admission is reasonable at $7 per adult, $6 senior, and $4 for children 3-12. Cool dinosaur strollers were available for rent. There is a great gift shop located at the entrance to the museum. Almost no way to pass it by so we spent a few min. exploring in there. There were a lot of really unique gifts available. Just passed the gift shop was the skeleton of a T-Rex. Since it was the holidays he was dressed festive which was a lot of fun for the kids. The Naturalist Center is a room filled with live animals (reptiles and fish), hands on activities, and a docent to answer any questions. We spent quite a bit of time in here. The restrooms were located right next to the Naturalist Center and there is a changing table in the womans restroom Finally we moved on. The museum is set up to go in order through time. We went backwards and we went quickly. We explored a volcano, rode in an Evolator (a room that looks like an elevator but doesnt actually go anywhere. It plays a short film while moving slightly) which my kids loved, viewed the sea floor, saw a short film of extinction, viewed dinosaurs, and explored fossils. We spent about 1 1/2 hours at the museum and only experienced a small taste of it. There was still quite a few exhibits as we missed the cave and Wooly Mammoths as well as the computer exhibit and the entire planetarium. We also decided to skip the Dynatheatre (I-Max) movie do to energy level of my kids. We purchased a membership and will definitely go back. This is an excellent place for families with children of all ages.
