Jacob's Ladder (Polemonium caeruleum) are upright, clump forming perennials. The foliage consists of ovate leaves that grow along stems. The leaves grow symmetrically along the stem and can resemble a ladder, hence the name. The deep blue flowers are complimented by yellow flowers and stamens. The appearance of yellow dots make these small flowers highly ornamental, despite their small size. Jacob's Ladder prefers average fertility, medium moisture, well drained soils in part shade to full shade. Jacob's Ladder are show additions to shady areas in need of some color. Both the foliage and blooms are ornamental, making these perennials beautiful options for landscaping near homes and structures.
