The Bio-Hotel Stanglwirt is like the postcard-perfect set of “The Sound of Music” (sans nefarious villains, of course)—one of our favorite things. Behind its imposing wood and stone exterior, suites outfitted in pine furniture and crisp white linens read chalet-chic. This is a place where you stop to smell the fresh flowers—don’t make us launch into a bad rendition of “Edelweiss”—and, of course, to take in the crystal-clear mountain views and crisp Alpine air. To make the most of it, take a six-mile hike over to Schwarzsee Lake, one of the warmest in the Alps, where you can set up a picnic, take a dip, and spend a day. If you’re trying to venture too far off course, but still want those crazy, snow-capped views, we’d suggest a swing at the on-site driving range, set up against the mountains—better yet, take a lesson at the resort’s own ski school in the winter. Breakfast is a complimentary affair, and with six dining options, including the famed Kuhstall (cowshed) lounge and restaurant, where you can wine and dine over views of bovids, and the Stangl-Alm, whose cozy fireplace vibe is best experienced in the wintertime, you won’t want for variety.
