Láki Tours - On the 21st January we saw a group of killer whales pass underneath the bridge over Kolgrafafjörður while we were standing on the bridge. The photo that was taken of this brief encounter has been sent to the researchers in Iceland who have been studying the killer whales here and one of the animals (the animal on the far left of the image, with a large nick out of the dorsal fin) is a whale known to move between Iceland and Scotland. One fascinating thing about these killer whales is that they have been documented feeding on seals off Scotland but fish off Iceland. So not all killer whales are either mammal or fish eaters, as is thought to be the case in the north Pacific. Some eat both. This whale is known as 997 in Iceland and 019 in Scotland. Not very memorable. Any suggestions for a name that is a little more catchy? Judith (Tour guide
