Last time I lived here, I wrote about why I was moving to the city and I did a six-month update, so here we go again. This post is a bit of a brain dump about all the things happening in my Melbourne life right now. It’s a little bit different to my usual travel posts, but I thought a personal post every now and again is only a good thing, right? Six months back in Melbs Last week marked six months of me being back in the city. No, I don’t know where the time has gone either. But I can safely say I am happy to be back living in Melbourne. Yes, my rent is expensive, it’s cold and riding trams in peak hour is my idea of hell. But other than that, I really love this city ;) Although I miss my dreamy Docklands apartment with its central location and gorgeous views, I love where I’m living in Richmond. I can walk to the shops and the gym (where I do zumba and watch Netflix built-in to the treadmill); the tram is three minutes away; and I am surrounded by delicious cafes and restaurants (this is a good and a bad thing). I’ve actually done a pretty good job so far this winter taste testing a lot of them as well. It’s the exact place I want to be right now. Work-wise, things got a little bit hectic there for awhile. I was technically juggling four jobs and this blog, which didn’t leave a lot of time for socialising or watching TV (my favourite pastime). Those four jobs: two hospitality and two freelance writing jobs. Things have now quietened down slightly on both fronts, but I am still enjoying the fact that no two weeks are the same in my world. I like the variety of my work. I know this lifestyle isn’t for everyone, but it totally suits me. Another surprising thing is that although I will never be a fan of winter, Canada totally toughened me up guys! I do have a little Kmart fan heater I put on periodically when I work from home as my hands like to freeze when I work on my computer (anyone else?). But outside, all I need is a sweater, jacket and jeans and I’m set. I’ve added a few different jackets to my collection this year, as this was the one thing I missed in Canada. I got SO sick of wearing the same jackets over and over again. But Melbourne winter really isn’t that bad, compared to Vancouver. I don’t love it, and I have had days where I’ve felt very unmotivated. But then there’s days where I can go for a morning walk in the sunshine that make me believe it isn’t so bad. Besides from work and hibernation, I promise I’ve been doing other things in Melbourne. This is what I love about this city — that I still have a (very long) list of cafes and restaurants I want to visit, and places I need to see. I love that there is so much to do in Melbourne. I also still have all of these day trips to do. But I’ve been meeting up with friends weekly (and making new ones) for brunch or to check out different events. I signed up for a weekly city newsletter as well, which is a fantastic way to keep up-to-date with what’s happening in Melbourne. Maybe I should have named this post: my love letter to Melbourne? Seriously though, I don’t know if Melbourne will be my forever home. But for right now, it’s exactly where I want to be. I think I will always miss Vancouver and my friends, but I know that returning to Melbourne was wholeheartedly the right thing to do. I love ya, Melbs. Are you happy where you’re currently living?
