The grounds of the Château de Brécy are highly ornamental. Cross the château to access the terraced gardens, which stand on the hill (and admire on the way the sumptuous 17C portal). Box trees forming intricate patterns and sculptural flowers, two-headed dogs, fountains, balusters and the tall and ornate gate... so many elements harmoniously combined. Look to your right as you are returning from the gardens and you will see the buildings which used to house a baker's ovene Jardin de Brécy date of the second half of the seventeenth century. It is one of the few remaining examples of this period in France. Legend has it that Mansart, working at the castle of Ballymena, was the creator of the gardens.
