When I was nine years old, someone gifted me my first fantasy novel. It was The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien. I read it several times over and drank in the genius of Tolkien. I was thirteen or so when I found out that there were three more books. Let me tell you, there has never been a more excited book worm in all the land when I brought home The Fellowship of the Ring. My love for Shire folk and Tolkien's world of Middle Earth has never left me. I'd say these books rank right up there with Harry Potter and The Earthsea Chronicles to me. If you're friends with me on Facebook, you know that I commonly refer to Lily as my hobbit. That's because she eats all of the time, likes her comforts, and is even named after a flower (as all female hobbitses are). Well, when I was browsing Pinterest for nursery ideas, I couldn't find a single one that fit just right with my sweet baby. So, I decided to create a nursery based on The Shire for my little hobbit. It will be full of greenery, natural wood, and flowers. We've been through too many painting mistakes, lots of frustration, and much ripping up of old nasty carpet. More pictures will come as soon as I'm completely finished with it, but I wanted to share some pictures of a few finds I'm particularly proud of. The first photo is of a hand-carved wooden light switch plate, found on etsy. The second photo is of a paper map I also found on etsy. As I'm writing this post, it looks like etsy is down at the moment, so I'll post links as soon as she's back up :-) Pin It
