During the 1960s and 70s, protest posters served as rallying cries for peace, as defamations of the federal government, and as tributes to the martyrs of the civil rights movement.
Original Vietnam Era Anti War Protest Poster Washington DC and Berkeley This original poster was printed for a rally that took place on April 24, 1971. While 200,000 people held a rally on the Mall in Washington DC, around 156,000 simultaneously marched in San Francisco. It was the largest such rally to date on the West Coast. The procession began at the Civic Center and made its way up Geary Boulevard, finishing up at Speedway Meadow in Golden Gate Park. This official rally poster included a slightly reworked quotation of Lincoln, addressing the powers-that-be: “You can fool all of the people some of the time; you can even fool some of the people all of the time; …but you can’t fool all of the people all the time.” This poster came from a large estate of original posters / artwork from the 60’s and 70’s. Most of the artwork was San Francisco / Berkeley originated. The poster has been laminated by its original owner. The poster measures 16.5” x 22.5”. Here we have a rare Peace and Love black velvet poster with a hand giving the "Peace" sign, straight our of the Vietnam era 60s. i can't get past how good the hand is, with silver nail polish shining strong. You have to love the DIY spirit of whomever created this beauty. Making a statement and taking it to the streets. These artifacts need to be brought into the light again and featured on your wall. The 60s are alive and well. The hand painted counter culture artwork came out of a storage unit for an old head shop in Duluth, Minnesota. I was told it was produced in the fever of the late 60s. The black velvet poster measures 20" wide and 15" tall. The poster is stapled to the original paper backing along the edges. The velvet has gathered some dust in storage. I'll let you clean it however you see fit. Please see all pics as they are part of the description. I ship FedEx to street addresses in the continental USA only (no PO boxes). This is a two-part project that explores anti-Vietnam War protest and counterculture in America during the 1960's. Students will listen to and analyze two pieces of Vietnam War Era music, watch video clips, and then create their own Vietnam War protest poster or song. Teaching Timeframe: This two-part project should take between 2-3 class periods, depending on the length of the periods. The poster can optionally be assigned as homework. Objective: Students will be able to analyze and explain how American disapproval of the Vietnam War was demonstrated through a variety of media, and create their own original and historically accurate protest project.
