We set out to make a sour cream doughnut recipe, we really did. We tried and we tried, and when it wasn’t working, we switched to Greek yogurt. Adding yogurt to the batter for these cake doughnuts made them light, tangy, and rich, and gave us a dough that was easy to work with. Have we all been calling them yo-nuts ever since? As per wiki,Croatian cuisine is heterogeneous, its known as a cuisine of the regions since every regions has its own distinct culinary traditions. Its roots date back to ancient times and the differences in the selection of foodstuffs and forms of cooking are most notable between those on the mainland and those in coastal regions. Mainland cuisine is more characterized by the earlier Slavic and the more recent contacts with neighboring cultures - Hungarian, Austrian and Turkish, using lard for cooking, and spices such as black pepper, paprika, and garlic. The coastal region bears the influences of the Greek, Roman and Illyrian, as well as of the later Mediterranean cuisine - Italian (especially Venetian) and French, using olive oil, and herbs and spices such as rosemary, sage, bay leaf, oregano, marjoram, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, lemon and orange rind. Peasant cooking traditions are based on imaginative variations of several basic ingredients (cereals, dairy products, meat, fish, vegetables) and cooking procedures (stewing, grilling, roasting, baking), while bourgeois cuisine involves more complicated procedures and use of selected herbs and spices. Charcuterie is part of Croatian tradition in all regions. Food and recipes from former Yugoslav countries are also popular in Croatia. I am a fan of baking pans. Not just your basic cake pans, but pans to help expand your baking adventures. Two pans I highly recommend are a doughnut pan and a popover pan. If you’ve followed me long enough you know I use both pans on a regular basis and the recipes I use them for are not hard at all. If you haven’t already invested in these pans, I suggest you run out to get them sooner than later! They won’t break your bank either and you will get a lot of use out of them. You can find these pans at Target with a quick search. Okay, now back to these popovers. I made cinnamon sugar popovers a few years back when I didn’t have a popover pan. I made them in a muffin tin and they did come out well. However, I’m a fan of pretty things and I must say I love the way the popovers turn out when you use the proper pan. I used a basic popover recipe and then, wait for it, I dipped these babies in butter and rolled in cinnamon sugar. I know, I’m out of control! These are perfect for …
