A report presented by the National Commission on Special Needs in Education and Training, and the National Committee on Education Support Services (1997:18) articulates clearly the importance of parental involvement in teaching and learning. The report asserts that: \"The active involvement of parents in the teaching and learning process is central to effective learning and development\". Such involvement includes the recognition of parents as the primary care-givers of their children and, as such, they are a central resource to the education system. Researchers, Ellis and Fouts (1994:115) propose that positive parental involvement in the process of teaching and learning can produce an enhanced and conducive learning milieu and allow learners the valuable opportunity to learn more. However, the headline featured in a South African newspaper, \"Mother and a pal beat up teacher\", (Philip, 2005:1) provides alarming evidence that not all parental involvement is positive and contributes to the successful attainment of educational goals. This book eloquently describes teachers' personal experiences with parents behaving aggressively towards them.

She couldn't understand why. They didn't even know her! Was it her clothes or the way she talked? Is there anything out there that can help us to communicate more effectively with parents? Nothing concerns me more as a school administrator or causes me more angst as the fear of unhappy parents. Very early in my career as an early childhood administrator, I vivdly remember a mommy physically backing me up to the wall with her jabbing words and bullying attitude. It seemed there had to be more going on than her discontent with a teacher who wasn't \"loving enough\" to her child. My deeper concern was how to prevent a parent from getting this angry in the first place. After finding a startegy to forge positive communciation between parents and teachers, I employed the strategy, in serviced teachers, and replicated the research for two years. Parents who are satisfied with the school's attempt at good communication were also pleased with the way the school was going. There is a strong correlation between parent satisfaction and school communication practices. The book details the \"tell the teacher more\" strategy, the training of school personnel, the research, and the comments from the teachers themselves how one strategy at the beginning of the school year can have major impact on the positive communication that happens all year long! If you want to make a major impact in the communcation with your school parents, grab the book and read about the \"Way to Go!\"
If your children confessed to you today that they are victims of bullying at school, would you be prepared to support them? Bullying is a type of harassment that occurs regularly, much more than we want to admit, and it should be considered a form of violence, not less. It occurs silently or in full view of peers and teachers, causing severe trauma to the bully. For this reason, various international agencies such as UNESCO and UNICEF recommend that all parents and teachers be educated about it. This book provides you with the information you need to help your children or students to face this serious problem.

Teachers and Parents: The Anti Bully: Alleviating Childrens' Danger Inside The Internet
Bullying is a problem in elementary schools and has been shown to negatively affect a student's academic performance, friendships, and attitudes towards bullying. Bullying often occurs on the playground when teachers do not observe the bullying behavior first hand. Likewise, parents depend on their child's report about bullying in school. In one study, only one-third of parents contact their child's teacher when bullying occurred in school, while in another study teachers failed to communicate effectively with parents when bullying occurred in school. The objective of the study was to facilitate in a collaborative relationship between parents and teachers when bullying in school occurs. Previous research has indicated that parents' and teachers' attitudes toward bullying and victimization can influence elementary children's views of bullying, yet little research has compared parents' and teachers' attitudes toward these bullying behaviors of children in elementary school.
