Another fine colourised view of Haruna going through her paces after her major rebuild in the1930's. Almost 5000 tons heavier than as built originally, the reconstruction saw new machinery fitted, and the hull lengthened by some 34 feet, resulting in an increase in top speed from 27.5 kts as built to just over 30 kts as she appears in the configuration shown above. Amazingly, in order to obtain that 3 knot speed increase, the output of her engines called for an increase from the 64000 Shaft horse-power of her original machinery to 136,000 SHP in her rebuilt form!!
