Artist Kadir Nelson is quietly building a portfolio of historic proportions. At 37, his work already appears in the Capitol Building in Washington D.C., and at the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. Nelson has spent much of his young career painting large-scale scenes from the history of the Negro Leagues. An exhibit of paintings from his book ”We Are the Ship: The Story of Negro League Baseball” is at the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art.
