So, after a few weeks of vacation, funky rental lens, and kids birthday party providing ample subjects for me, today it's back to my regular schedule, and me hunting for a source of inspiration for something to shoot. The commute presented me with no new options, so that translated into me trying to find a subject in the house, after dark, after the kids went to bed. Thing Two bought Thing One an old sewing table at a yard sale a few weeks back, and gave it to her as a birthday gift yesterday. The table was still filled with old sewing supplies, including these wooden spools of thread and the measuring tape pictured here. I got this composition in my head, but it really felt like it wanted to be lit by late day sun, coming in through a window, which I was fresh out of. This is my best effort at mimicking it with strobes and a touch of white balance adjustment in post. The wooden surface is the top of the sewing table. Nikon D7000 w/Nikkor 18-200mm @ 200mm, 1/250s @ ƒ/9.5, ISO100. Two SB-700s at full power with the built-in diffusers on (14mm zoom), slightly above the subject, to the right and behind (and with the heads as close together as I could get them). Used the gold face of my 5-in-1 reflector to bounce to fill the shadows and color the light a bit. Cropped slightly, and boosted vibrance and definition a hair in Aperture, but pretty close to straight off the camera.
