Jes Goodwin is, together with John Blanche, the mastermind behind the distinctive look of the Warhammer 40.000 universe. He is arguably one of the best miniature designers in the world and was head of GW's plastics division. He also invented the skaven. I have always been fascinated by his beautifully rendered pencil sketches, perhaps even more so than the models themselves.
