You will need patience to master this needle tatting technique. Unlike shuttle tatting and traditional needle tatting, the tool does not hold a supply of thread with which to work. Instead, Japanese needle tatting functions more like crochet in that it draws continually from the ball of thread. - Japanese Needle Tatting - Tatting at BellaOnline

My Motif # 6 is from Judi Banashek's book "Advanced Tatting Patterns". I used white Lizbeth Size 20 thread. Judi is the founder of our Oklahoma Shuttle Bugs tatting group. She is a wonderful teacher and I learned so much from her. A few years ago she moved to Waxahachie, TX to be close to her daughters. Good news! Terry McGuffin gave me permission to post her pattern for the Windmill Snowflake. As soon as I locate it I'll try to figure out a way to post it here.

If you have not read Sharon's post Are You a Shuttle Hoarder --- head on over!!! What a hoot. Sharon blogs at Sharon's Tatted lace. Motif #5 in Lizbeth 632 and Lizbeth 663 Motif #6 in Lizbeth 615 and Lizbeth 632 - tension, tension, tension. + a few doodles! I like to have empty shuttles. And, I must be a hoarder. I seem to own a bunch - and like the variety of colors, sizes and styles. From: Motifs for Marie by Kaye B Judt Saw this on facebook, went to a few Target stores - and found one. Too cute ; ) I see on the box there is a collection of FIVE. The other four look to be the same doll in different clothing. Would be nice to see the clothing sold separately. I'm just sayin.
I'm back from Los Angeles, and I had a great time! We all survived the speeches that one always has to sit through at a graduation, and then we had fun. We went to the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, which was pretty fun. My favorite exhibit there was the sea otters, although I found it gallingly ironic that the exhibit is sponsored by BP. Did you know that a sea otter has as many hairs in one square inch as a German shepherd has on its entire body? The next day we went to the La Brea Tar Pits; this is by far the best thing I've ever done in L.A. after several visits. If you're ever in L.A. and have to choose where you have time to go, definitely do the Tar Pits. I learned a lot there, but my favorite piece of trivia is the scientific name for the saber-toothed cat: Smilodon fatalis. As I had hoped, I got some work done on the placemats for my cousin. Here's the first row: I obviously won't be able to show the full placemats in detail, since I had to lay just the one row diagonally across the scanner, but I promise to show as much as I can. The next row will be the "B" motif done in the Light Wedgewood. The whole thing will be much more stable once the next row is joined. I need to finish unpacking now and get caught up on my blog reading. Can't wait to see what you all did at Tat Days! If all goes as planned, I will get to meet somebody very special tomorrow. Photos to come....

Sea Turtles Found this adorable pattern on Jane's site. They were made with Messy Jessy thread. Looks like they are heading to the ocean. They are going to be changeable earrings. Finally a little tatting done.

Lovely cotton fabric w/tatting and button. Tatting is from Mini Tats book Motif #11. I used five different gold fabrics to create this lovely flower. Added an easy tatted motif (pattern below) + secured w/button. I like this lavender material so much - the photo doesn't do justice to the lovely color and charming motifs. Added an easy tatted motif (pattern below) + secure w/button. Lovely off white fabric w/navy stars. Added an easy tatted pattern (pattern below) and button. This is a pattern sheet I created with some easy-to-tat motifs. I like to make them and use them on the kanzashi flowers. I tried to make the lettering darker. I enjoy making Kanzashi flowers (w/templates by Clover) and adding tatting to decorate. I like to secure w/button or a fabric yo yo. (middle flower has motif #8 from Mini Tats book). Comments? Questions? e-mail me
Happy May Day Does anyone celebrate May Day anymore? Last Sunday, at Church, one of the little boys was looking at his song bird and thought it was a butterfly. Explaining butterflies has four wings, not two. So, I asked him if he wanted a butterfly on a paperclip. This was simple to design, using size 20 thread.

I was woken up by the moon again one night in October. It isn't a good photo but I thought this is a different view of the moon using a phone camera.
Tatting is a kind of looped lace needle work, real intricate and fiddly. These white tea cup and saucer sets have been starched to keep their shape.

I've got so many projects I want to do and so little time these days. Here is the newest project. I'm tatting an edge for a friend of my mother. She had several hankies in storage and wanted to give them to me. It seems her mother did crochet edges and never used these hankies. I asked her to pick one for me to take and 'regift' her. Here is the hanky and the beginning of an edge. I chose an edge from Mary Konior's book, "Tatting with Visual Patterns". I think this is the bride's maids pattern. I'll have to check again and let you know if it's different. As you see, I've got a long way to go. One note...I really like the edging patterns which help you visualize the corners. Now, I just hope this will repeat 'just right' and fit the hanky I've got. On another note, I would love to be able to respond to your wonderful comments but have been unable to do so.... I've tried everything. So, I'm at a loss on that one. I will tell you, I'm really looking forward to TAT days this September. I hope your weekend is grand! john
